Do I have to take drivers education or driver training to get a Pennsylvania driver license? Pennsylvania

New Driver Checklist
No.

NJ Drivers Education

Pennsylvania doesn’t require drivers license applicants of any age to complete any formal drivers education or driver training programs before applying for a permit or the full Class C license.

However, just because you don’t have to take drivers education or enroll in any specific driver training program doesn’t mean you’re entirely off the hook.

Obtaining Driver Training in NJ

If you’re younger than 18, the state does require you to complete 50 hours of behind-the-wheel practice after you get your learner’s permit and before you get your full PA driver license.

Of course, you can also get additional education when you study the Pennsylvania Driver’s Manual and take a few practice tests to sharpen your knowledge of the state’s road rules. You can download a copy of the manual from the PennDOT Web site, but if you access the online copy you’ll also get additional study questions.
