How much is a duplicate CA drivers license to replace a stolen or lost license? California
Replacement Drivers License Fee
The fee is $25.
Getting a Duplicate License
If your driver license was lost or stolen:
- Make an appointment at the DMV office to get a new drivers license. Either call your local CA DMV branch, or make the appointment via Internet.
- Fill out a new DL 44 Driver License form. To get this in the mail, call 1-800-777-0133.
At the California DMV office, you’ll have to redo the thumbprint.
- Bring another ID with you.
Most of the time, the office can validate who you are if you know your Social Security number; they have your picture and other info on file, but bring the ID in case they ask for it. Something like a military ID, passport, or other government-issued document should work.
Report a Stolen or Lost Driver License
If you know your license was stolen, file a police report and provide a copy to the DMV when you get your replacement license.
If you have a lost license, then you may still want to report the fact to credit agencies such as Experian and Equifax, so they can be on the lookout for fraud.
If you suspect fraud has occurred, call the DMV Fraud Hotline at 1-866-658-5758. You should also report the crime to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) at 1-877-ID-THEFT (438-4338).
