How long before I am eligible for a New York drivers license reinstatement if I have a suspended license? New York

New Driver Checklist

Length of Suspended License

There is no set drivers license suspension length. Each suspension comes with it's own determining factors. For example, a first-time DUI offender may face a revoked license of up to one year. But the length can change due to other circumstances. Whether you enroll in a New York Drinking Driving Program, plays a part, as does your blood alcohol count (BAC), or whether an accident was involved, or even whether if you were driving with children in the vehicle at the time of your arrest.

Different factors also apply to a suspended license resulting from no insurance. The length of your suspension is determined by the number of days you kept your license plates (NY requires surrendering your plates to the DMV) while you weren't covered by auto insurance. So if you held on to your plates for 147 days, your driver license would also be suspended for 147 days.

Often a court judge will determine the length of a suspension as well as your license reinstatement requirements. For more insight, you may want to contact the DMV.
