Japanese Driver License Tests by State

As of July 2010, 16 of the 50 U.S. states offer a drivers license test in Japanese. If you are interested in taking your drivers license test in Japanese, consult the grid below to determine if your state will accommodate you.

Road Signs and the Drivers License Test

While the written knowledge portion of the test might be offered in Japanese, be prepared to take the road sign portion of the test in English. Because road signs are written in English in the majority of communities, basic knowledge of the English language is required of all drivers.

Practice Tests and Driver Training

If you have difficulty locating a practice test in Japanese, consider enrolling in a drivers education course with the help of a Japanese-English interpreter. Regardless of practice tests, taking a driver training course will help you become familiar with English road signs and better prepare you for once it’s time to test for your drivers license.
