What is the NC renew license fee? North Carolina
License Renewal Fee
The fee to renew a NC drivers license is $4 per year.
- Those ages 18 to 53 renew for 8 years at a time; the fee is $32.
- Those ages 54 and up renew for 5 years at a time; the fee is $20.
Driving Tests
In North Carolina, everyone must go into the DMV office to renew a driver license. This is because you must retake both the written and vision tests. Additionally, the DMV examiner may decide to have you hop behind the wheel of your car and demonstrate that your driving skills are still up to par. Prepare for these exams before your renewal. You may wish to take a practice test by purchasing multiple choice sample questions.
Expired License
Having an expired license in NC will get you cited with a traffic ticket, should you be stopped by a police officer. However, there are no additional fees to renew license, as long as it’s only been expired less than one year.
If your driver license has expired over a year ago, you’ll have to go through the entire process of getting a brand-new license.
