What are the drivers license reinstatement requirements for a NC suspended license? North Carolina
NC License Reinstatement
The way you get your drivers license back after it’s been suspended depends on the reason why it was suspended. Suspension times vary from case to case. You will be told how long your drivers license has been suspended. If you don’t know how long your suspension time is, check with the North Carolina courts or order a copy of your driving records.
DWI
- Wait out the suspension time before you reapply for a new driver license. Suspension time varies from between 1 to 4 years.
- Complete an alcoholic education class, if required by the courts, and get a certificate from the school.
- Complete any other jail time or court-ordered community service.
- Make sure your fines are paid at the courts.
- Make an appointment at a DMV office to get your drive license reinstated.
- Pay a $75 reinstatement fee.
Points Violations
If you’ve racked up too many points and had your driver license suspended:
- Wait until after your suspension time is up. This time varies from between 30 days to 3 years.
- Complete any drivers education or training programs the North Carolina DMV asks you to.
- Make an appointment at a DMV office.
- Pay a $50 fee.
Medical Condition
If your drivers license was taken away as a result of a medical condition (physical or mental)
- Resolve your medical condition by getting treatment from a physician.
- Get the physician to fill out a medical evaluation form stating that you’re well enough to drive.
- Bring the form to a DMV office and reapply for a driver license.
- No reinstatement fee applies.
