Can I make an appointment for NJ drivers license renewal? New Jersey

New Driver Checklist

NJ Renew License Appointment

You cannot make an appointment to renew your drivers license. It's first come, first serviced at any DMV office (or MVC office, as it's known as in New Jersey). Try avoiding visiting at the end of the week or the end of the month. The middle of the week and month are usually the slowest times, especially before and after lunch hour.

When you arrive, be sure to have the following:

  • Your current driver license.
  • Enough identification to meet 6 Point Identification Verification requirements.
  • Cash, check or credit card (Visa, American Express, MasterCard) to pay your $24 license renewal fee. Or $33 if you're renewing a six-year license.

Expired License Consequences

Driving with an expired drivers license is never advised. If stopped by the police, you will receive a traffic ticket and be fined. Plus, if you allow your NJ driver license to remain expired for longer than three years, when it comes time that you go in to finally renew it, you'll be required to start from square one and retake all three driver license tests (vision, written and skills).
