No. Massachusetts is one of a few states where mail license renewal isn't an option. But, you have at least one choice - and possibly two - when it comes to renewing your drivers license.

MA Renew License in Person

No matter what your situation happens to be, you can renew your driver license in person at a RMV full-service office or a license express office. You'll need to:

- Pass the vision test
- Give your Social Security number (or your denial notice)
- Pay the $75 fee

MA Renew License Online

This could be a possibility for you. However, you can only renew your driver license online once every 10 years (or essentially every other renewal period).

You'll also have to bypass this option if you:

  • Need to change your name
  • Don't have a Social Security number
  • Want to update your organ donor preference
  • Have a license picture that occurred before your 21st birthday
  • Have a license picture that's more than nine years old
  • Want to register to vote
  • Haven't received your confirmation from your online change of address
After paying for your renewal online with your Visa, MasterCard, or Discover Card, you should get your new license within seven days.

Did you know you can renew your drivers license up to one year in advance of its expiration date? Renewing your license early eliminates the possibility of driving with an expired license and being nailed with a traffic ticket and a large fine.
