Whether or not you receive your registration renewal notice, the FL DHSMV still requires you to take care of your renewal duties on time. Period. If you don't renew your car registration before its expiration date, you risk being pulled over by law enforcement and being nailed with a traffic ticket.

Each Florida county can decide whether to send the car registration renewal reminders to its residents. So, if you didn't receive a register car renewal form, perhaps your county elected not to mail the cards. It might also be due to the DMSMV not having your current address on file. You can call the DHSMV at (850) 617-2000 to see if the agency has your present address.

Even without the vehicle registration renewal card, you can still renew your registration in person at your local tax collector's office, online, or by mail.

Smog Check/Emissions Testing Not Required

Unlike other states, Florida doesn't require its residents to have their cars undergo a smog or emissions inspection as a condition of getting a registration renewed.
