Inspections are conducted by the Georgia Clean Air Force at stations located throughout the state. You can find a listing of inspection locations on the GA Clean Air Force Web site or call (800) 449-2471 for assistance selecting a location for your inspection. Since the Department of Revenue (DOR) does not conduct emissions testing, these office locations are unable to provide help with this aspect of the car registration process.

Remember, if your car or light duty truck has an 8,500 pounds gross vehicle weight rating or less and is registered in any of the following counties, you might be required to have an emissions inspection for vehicle registration:

  • Clayton
  • Cobb
  • Coweta
  • DeKalb
  • Douglas
  • Fayette
  • Forsyth
  • Fulton
  • Gwinnett
  • Henry
  • Paulding
  • Rockdale
The fee for an emissions test and smog check is between $10 and $25, depending on your vehicle type. It is recommended that you plan to have your vehicle tested four to six weeks before your registration renewal date, in order to allow plenty of time for any necessary repairs to be made.
