Duplicate Car Registration
This happens more often than you'd expect, making the MVC well equipped on how to handle lost, damaged, or stolen registration certificates.To register car and get a duplicate, visit any NJ MVC office and complete form BA-49. This cannot be downloaded. You'll also need to present:
- Proof of age and identification (your driver license will suffice).
- Either your New Jersey Insurance Identification card or a receipt from a previous registration or title transaction.
- Cash, check, money order, or credit card (Visa, American Express, MasterCard) to pay a duplicate fee of either $5 (one-year registration, or last year of your four-year accelerated registration) or $11 (if you have more than one year remaining on your four-year accelerated registration).
You'll receive your duplicate vehicle registration immediately.
