Pennsylvania Registration Renewal

If you did not receive a notice in the mail from PennDOT about an imminent renewal of your vehicle registration, fear not. You can still process the renewal online with a few simple bits of information.

Visit the online registration renewal form on PennDOT's website and supply:

  • Your vehicle's title number
  • Your license plate number
  • Insurance company name, policy number and effective dates
The vehicular information is printed right on your current registration card.

The annual car registration process in PA typically requires a safety inspection and emissions testing, so don't neglect those. Your renewal notice would clearly state this, but without the renewal notice, you can still register your car and perform the smog and emissions check within 10 business days.

You may also submit a "Request for Registration Renewal" to PennDOT. It's Form MV-140, readily available on their website.

Change Of Address

Make sure you provide PennDOT with your most current mailing address to avoid delays. Updating an address for your drivers license or car registration is easily accomplished online, and PennDOT asks you to make changes promptly, within 15 days of moving. Keep your records accurate to get those renewal notices and avoid any late fees from possible delays.
