Online Registration Renewal in Massachusetts

You can complete your registration renewal online if you have:

  • A valid E-mail address.
  • A valid credit card (American Express, Visa, Discover, MasterCard).
  • Your MA drivers license number.
  • Your current registration number.
You can find the online car registration renewal form on the RMV website. The application will instruct you on how to proceed.

After completing the transaction you'll immediately receive a transaction number. Hang on to this number for just-in-case tracking purposes.

Within about three days of submitting, the RMV will send you a confirmation e-mail, indicating whether or not your transaction was successful.

You should receive your new Massachusetts vehicle registration documents within about 10 days. If your current car registration is set to expire within a week, consider renewing in person. Unlike renewing online, you'll receive your new registration documents immediately.

Emissions Testing for Your Register Car Process

Your vehicle must pass an annual smog check and safety inspection. If you need help locating a state-approved inspection center for safety, smog, and emissions in your area, call (866) 941-6277.
