- Car registration renewal: $50

- Car registration renewal fee with passenger reserve plates: $90

- Certificate of title fee: $75
NOTE: Fees for special plates vary. For instance, a Boston Red Sox plate, along with registration, costs $90, while a Cape & Islands license plate totals out at $100.
MA Emissions Testing and Safety Inspection Requirements
In addition to car registration, your vehicle must also pass an annual smog check/safety inspection. You must provide a valid registration certificate before the smog/emissions and safety inspection, or you will be denied.There are close to 1,500 state-approved inspection centers across Massachusetts.
