Vintage License Plates

Visit your DMV's Web site. If offered, you'll find detailed information on how to fit your antique car with an antique plate or plates. But before you can order vintage plates, you must first prove to the DMV that your vehicle does indeed qualify as a vintage car. All states follow different guidelines for antique car classification. In Montana, for example, any vehicle 30 years or older enjoys vintage status. But in Missouri, a vehicle only has to be 25 years old.

If your vehicle does qualify for antique car status, keep in mind that most state's will limit its mobility. Only using the vehicle for driving to and from car exhibitions and educational events is a common restriction.

How to Order

Contact your DMV for exact ordering instructions. You'll find the process, regardless of state, is similar to registering.
