When you have a salvaged vehicle that you are trying to reregister in Arizona, you will need to apply for a 3 day permit.

A salvaged vehicle is one that has been totaled in some sort of an accident and has gotten fixed. The owner of a salvage vehicle needs to get it reinspected before he can get it retitled. To drive an untitled car is against the law, which can make it difficult to get the car to the inspection station. To do this, you need to get a 3 day permit. This allows a person to drive an unregistered vehicle or one with a suspended registration.

A 3 day permit is only valid when being used for the following:

  • Application for title or registration
  • Emissions testing
  • Inspection of the vehicle or for the vehicle to be repaired in order to meet with the requirements of emission or inspection

You can order a 3 day permit by visiting the EZ permit section of the ServiceArizona Web site. The usual cost of a 3 day permit is $1. Weekends and holidays are not counted on the 3 days and the permit must be destroyed after the 3 days are up. You will be fined if caught using an expired permit.

If you have additional questions, call your local Department of Motor Vehicles.
