Title Transfer After You Sell Car

Here's what you need to do after selling your used car:

  • Remove your IL license plates. They belong to you. You can, if you desire, transfer the plates to another vehicle under your name.
  • Sign and print your name in the title's Assignment of Title Area.
  • Include an odometer reading on the car title.

No Illinois bill of sale is required. However, for just-in-case purposes, it's always wise to keep a copy for your personal files.

Used Cars Titles

Before putting your used car on the market, take the time to order a vehicle history report. It will help you set a price, based on fair market value, and establish credibility with potential buyers.
