Getting a duplicate title for a title that's lost or damaged is a simple process, much easier than most title transfer matters.

Duplicate Title Steps

  1. Obtain a duplicate car title application form (available in person, by phone, or online through the RMV).
  2. Complete all the required information (be sure to check the correct boxes).
  3. Sign the form (this includes all owners).
  4. Mailed the completed form and the $25 fee payment (made payable to the MassDOT) to:
Attn: Duplicate Titles Department
Registry of Motor Vehicles
P.O. Box 55885
Boston, MA 02205-5885

If there was a lien on the vehicle and the lien has been satisfied, be sure to include a lien release (an original form, not a duplicate) from the lienholder with the other paperwork.

You should receive a replacement for your lost title about 10 business days after the RMV receives it.
