How to Get a Salvage Title in Georgia

Complete Form MV-1S (Application for an Original or Replacement Salvage Title) to apply for a salvage title in GA. Information that you will provide on the application includes:

  • Vehicle identification number (VIN) of the damaged used cars.
  • Make and model of the auto.
  • Date you purchased the motor vehicle.
  • Date that the damage occurred.

If the vehicle has a co-owner, the co-owner must also sign and date the application.

Georgia Salvage Title Fee and Lienholder Information

Include the lienholder’s name, street mailing address, and telephone number if the auto is financed. Pay the $18 salvage title fee.

Make your check or money order to cover the cost of the fee out to the GA Department of Revenue. Mail your fee and completed vehicle title application to:

Salvage Unit
Motor Vehicle Division
P O Box 740384
Atlanta, GA 30374-00384

Obtaining a Vehicle History Report

A vehicle history report (VHR) goes above and beyond the kind of in-depth information even salvaged titles provide. If you’re in the market for used cars – and even if you already know the vehicle you’re considering purchasing is a rebuilt auto – consider obtaining a VHR to get the complete vehicle history.
