Custom license plates are known by a variety of names, such as personalized plates or vanity plates. They can also be called specialty plates; however, in Florida, a specialty plate isn't the same as a custom license plate. Instead, a specialty plate refers to plates with different design backgrounds - it doesn't have anything to do with the plate lettering or numbering.

FL Custom Plate Fees

So, now that we've defined the terminology, here's your answer: The fee for a custom plate is $12. That's in addition to whatever other fees that may apply.

If you're interested in a FL vanity plate, complete and submit the personalized plate registration form. You're allowed to have a maximum of seven characters plus a space or hyphen for plates with a centered design, and up to five with plates with a left-side design.
