Replacement License Plates and Fees

The GA MVD charges only $8 for a replacement license plate. You only need one, as Georgia does not issue a front license plate.

Take action as soon as you notice your rear license plate missing. You cannot drive a car without license plates. If you try, you risk getting ticketed and fined.

Before applying for a replacement license plate, you must first file a report with the police. This will protect you should the missing plate be used illegally.

Next, visit your local tag office with proper identification (drivers license or Georgia identification card). You'll be asked to complete two forms (MV-7, T-158) and pay the $8 replacement license plate fee with cash or a check or money order.
