Personalized Plates, Vanity Plates, Specialty Plates and Fees
The GA MVD charges $25 for a custom license plate, or what is also referred to as a "prestige plate." This fee only covers the plate. It does not pay for any related vehicle registration fees or ad valorem taxes. To order a personalized plate, visit your local County Tax Commissioner's office and:
- Complete a Request for the Manufacturer of a Special Prestige License Plate application. You'll be allowed six license plate requests on this form. Keep in mind that you must explain each request. Any combination of letters and numbers deemed as offensive or derogatory will be rejected.
- Pay the $25 fee and, depending on your situation, any other car registration fees. You can pay using cash, check or money order.
- If you are registering or renewing your car registration, be sure to bring proof of identification and proof of Georgia car insurance.
Georgia also offers a long list of special interest license plates, ranging from colleges and universities to Georgia sea turtles and retired military veterans. These plates also cost $25. To order, complete the aptly named Application for a Special Interest Plate. This can be downloaded or obtained from your local County Tax Commissioners office.
