Replacement Car Tags and Fees

No need to take a second job to pay for a replacement car registration sticker; the NY DMV only charges a $3 fee. You can apply online, in person, or by mail.

It's recommended that you apply as quickly as possible, because if you're caught driving without a vehicle registration sticker you will be, regardless of the circumstance, be ticketed. With this in mind, consider applying for a replacement car registration decal in-person at any DMV location. You'll receive your new sticker immediately. Ordering online or by mail will take two weeks.

Unlike most other states, New York does not require drivers to have stickers on their license plates, because the state does not have a license plate sticker; it favors instead a windshield decal.
