How do I renew my NC license plate stickers? North Carolina
Registration Renewal
Every year, your car registration and license plate stickers expire. At this time, you must renew the vehicle registration with the NC DMV. Then, North Carolina will issue you new stickers for your license plate and a new DMV registration. Drivers do not need to get new license plates every year.
How to Renew Your NC Vehicle Registration
Around two months before your tags expire, NC will send you a renewal notice. This tells you whether you need a smog or safety check, too.
To get new car tags and your new registration, do one of three things:
- Use the DMV online service.
- Go into a DMV office.
- Mail in your payment and renewal form, along with $1 for postage, to:
NC Division of Motor Vehicles
PO Box 29620
Raleigh, NC 27626-0620
