No More Car Tags On License Plates

You don't have to bother with replacing car tags because New Jersey no longer issues car tags for passenger cars. So, you have nothing to worry about if you own a car without a license plate decal.

NOTE: It's only when you drive out-of-state that you may have to monitor your rearview mirror for flashing lights. Many New Jersey drivers have been pulled over in other states by law enforcement officials unaware that the MVC stopped issuing vehicle registration decals in 2004. You won't be ticketed if your car registration is valid.

Keep Your Vehicle Registration Updated

With this in mind, it's important to renew your car registration on time.

The MVC will mail you a registration renewal form about two months before your car registration's expiration date. You can use this form to renew your registration online, by phone, by mail, or in person at any NJ MVC location. Renewing online or by phone will take about two weeks for your updated registration certificate to arrive in the mail.
