Titles and Fees

One fee fits all when it comes titles in Illinois:

  • Original car title - $95
  • Duplicate vehicle title - $95
  • Corrected title - $95

To keep things simple, there's only one title application as well. The Application for Vehicle Transaction(s) (Form VSD 190) is used for all title transactions. This includes applying for an original title, changing your listed name and replacing a lost title. This form cannot be downloaded. You can pick one up at any IL Secretary of State office, or request one by calling (800) 252-8980.

If your title has disappeared, it's in your best interest to apply for a duplicate title now rather than wait for when you're in the midst of a title transfer. Unlike a vehicle registration, a title cannot be processed immediately. It takes time. So if you have a buyer with limited patience, it could place the sale in doubt while you're trying to track down a duplicate title.
