Fees for Personalized Plates, Specialty Plates, and Vanity Plates

The fee you'll pay for an Illinois custom license plate ultimately depends on which plate you choose. The fees are as follows:

  • Vanity license plates: $94
  • Vanity license plates for a recreational trailer: $50
  • Personalized license plates: $47
  • Personalized license plates for a recreational trailer: $25
  • License plate switch fee: $29
  • License plate switch fee for motorcycles and recreational trailers: $26
  • Specialty license plate renewal fee surcharge: $7
  • Vanity license plate renewal fee surcharge: $13
