What are the fees to replace lost or damaged PA license plates? Pennsylvania

Replacing Pennsylvania License Plates

The fee to replace lost, stolen or damaged license plates in PA is $7.50. This fee is the same as all registration replacement fees - whether you need to obtain a replacement registration card, registration license plate, or renewal sticker.

It's easy to get your replacement plates on the PennDOT website. Download Form MV-44, called the "Application for Duplicate Registration, Replacement of Registration Plate, Renewal Sticker or Weight Class Sticker or Transfer of Registration." It asks for standard information about you and your vehicle, and the specific replacement product you need to obtain.

If your license plate is damaged or lost, or you suspect plate theft, notify PennDOT. It's also a good idea to notify your local police department of the theft.

Keep in mind that you don't need a front license plate in PA; the state only issues one and requires you to attach it to the rear of your vehicle.

Pennsylvania Vehicle Registration

License plates go hand-in-hand with vehicle registration in PA, so always maintain accurate and current information with PennDOT.

Renewing your car registration online is easy. Visit the PennDOT Web site and supply some basic information—drivers license number, title number, plate number, insurance policy number and effective dates—and pay your fees with a valid credit card. The standard registration renewal fee is $36, and your new registration and plate tabs should arrive in the mail within 10 business days.
