Ordering Pennsylvania Personalized and Vanity Plates

To order personalized plates in PA, fill out Form MV-904, available at the PennDOT website. This form is called the "Application for Special Registration Plate" and provides detailed instructions on the process.

Vanity plates may contain a combination of up to seven letters and numbers. You may include one hyphen or space, but not both, and neither counts against the seven-character limit. Special characters are not allowed, and PennDOT reserves the right to reject any custom license plate request it deems inappropriate.

The PennDOT website will allow you to check the availability of your personalized plate, but this does not guarantee acceptance. Also, your custom plate will only be issued for passenger vehicles, motorcycles, and motor homes. Trailers do not qualify for a personalized plate.

The fee is $20, payable by check to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and you should allow 10 weeks for delivery of your license plates.

Pennsylvania Vehicle Registration

Your vehicle must be properly titled and registered with PennDOT before applying for a vanity license plate. Keep your registration card and stickers from your current plate to use with your specialty plates when they arrive.
