Pennsylvania Vanity Plates

The fee for personalized plates in PA is $20. You can only pay by a check made out to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. No cash or credit card transactions are allowed for specialty plates through PennDOT.

To order your custom plate, download Form MV-904 from the PennDOT website and supply the required information. Your custom license plate may contain a combination of up to seven letters and numbers, with the addition of one space or hyphen. License plates may not contain special characters, and PennDOT reserves the right to reject a personalized plate is deems objectionable.

It's easy to check license plate availability on the PennDOT website, though this alone does not guarantee acceptance of your request.

Pennsylvania Vehicle Registration

Make sure your vehicle is properly titled and registered with PennDOT before requesting vanity plates, and make sure you have paid any pertinent fees. You will need to keep your current registration card with your vehicle, and reuse your plate stickers once the new custom plates arrive.
