Do I need to register my Jet Ski with the DMV?

Jet Ski and Sea Doo Vehicle Registration

Jet skis are classified as personal watercraft (PWC), requiring registration. There are no exceptions. This rule applies to every state and the District of Columbia. Boat registration is similar to vehicle registration in that you must carry proof with you at all times when operating.

Boat registration requirements vary with every state, including where to register. Jet ski owners in California, for example, must register with the DMV, while owners in Louisiana must file with the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. See the grid below for more information on your state.
