Georgia Commercial Driver License Tests
Written examinations are taken Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. No appointment is necessary to take the written examination. You must score at least 80% to pass the test so that you can get your CDL.
You will need to make an appointment to take the road rest. It cost $50 to take the road test.
Consider enrolling in a DDS-approved CDL training school (they are listed at the DDS website) to improve your commercial driving skills and increase your chances of passing both the written and road tests and help you with whichever CDL class you’re aiming for.
CDL practice tests (written and road) are offered at many schools. You can also take a CDL practice test with a friend based on material in the CDL manual.
Areas covered on the written and road tests include:
- Crossing railroad tracks.
- Transporting hazardous materials.
- Driving at night and inclement weather (i.e. fog, snow).
- Braking and parking.
