Can I get my Pennsylvania license plates reassigned to another vehicle? Pennsylvania
Transferring PA License Plates
Yes, you can transfer your license plates to another vehicle, but ONLY if you own it.To handle matters of license plate transfers, you will need to register the vehicle with PennDOT, but before you do be sure it's insured. If PennDOT discovers you operated the vehicle without insurance, your drivers license will be suspended for three months.
To register the vehicle, complete a Request for Registration application (Form MV-140). The application comes with in-depth instructions. After completing it, send it, along with a check or money order (payable to the "Commonwealth of Pennsylvania") for $36 and any other required documents (as explained in the instructions) to:
Bureau of Motor Vehicles
1101 S. Front St.
Harrisburg, PA 17104-2516
The fee will be higher if you decide to order personalized plates or vanity plates. To order you will need to complete an Application for Special Registration Plate (Form MV-904).
