Georgia Commercial License and Renew License Fees

To obtain your GA commercial drivers license (CDL), expect to pay the following fees:

  • Application: $35 (This fee is waived for veterans and school bus drivers who complete Form DDS-1233, available on the Department of Driver Services website.)
  • Permit: $10
  • Road Test: $50
  • License: $20
  • Endorsement: $5

CDL license renewal is easy. The license fee and endorsement fees will apply for CDL renewal, and Georgia has adopted an extended renewal period of 5 years. The state also offers a $5 discount for renewals by mail or online.

CDL Practice

The CDL test is specific to truck driving and commercial driving, so make sure to prepare in advance. As a potential CDL driver, arm yourself with the necessary knowledge and skills by taking a CDL class, taking a CDL practice test online, and taking formal skills training from an approved driving school or academy before making your appointment for the road test.

Check the DDS website for a list of schools to help you pass the driving test on your first attempt.
