Your MA CDL Medical Exam

You'll need to obtain (and submit) a completed CDL medical exam if you plan to:

  • Drive a commercial vehicle that weighs more than 10,000 pounds.
  • Transport at least 15 passengers on the vehicle you're driving.
  • Carry placarded hazardous materials on your vehicle.
If that describes your situation, go to a qualified medical professional for the exam. If you pass, you'll be given a completed and signed medical form indicating you're physically fit to hold a commercial license. Give this to the MA RMV driver's license office when you apply for your CDL.

By the way, if you become a CDL driver, you must carry a valid medical certificate with you whenever you're driving a commercial vehicle.

Take a CDL Practice Test to Prepare

While there aren't any practice tests to get you ready for the physical exam, there are tests available to help you pass the written CDL test.

Just take a few CDL practice tests - available through a variety of sources - and use these to heighten your chances of passing those difficult official tests on the first attempt. And, don't forget to study the trusty Massachusetts CDL handbook, too.
