Commercial License and Renew License Fees

A responsibility of being a CDL driver is timely license renewal. Depending on your state, you should receive a commercial drivers license renewal notice in the mail. On it should be instructions on how to renew, including the CDL fee you must pay. Most states require renewing in person, but some also allow renewal through mail.

If you allow your CDL to expire you'll risk getting ticketed if you try to drive. Plus, depending on how long you allow it to remain expired, you may, during reinstatement, be required to start from square one with testing requirements. This then would entail studying your state's CDL manual and taking a CDL practice test in order to pass the general knowledge CDL test - and making an appointment to take each part of the CDL road test, including the actual driving test.
