Each state has different guidelines as to when you must renew your commercial driver license (CDL). Commercial license renewal guidelines and renewal due dates are established by local Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

The guidelines are listed in DMV drivers manual. The purpose of the guidelines is to ensure that each CDL driver remains physically and mentally fit to operate the motor vehicles.

Commercial License Renewal Schedules by State

Following are state-by-state CDL license renewal guidelines. This information is also found in your state’s CDL drivers handbook. Other information included in the handbook might cover a CDL practice test, information included on the actual written CDL test, and what to expect from the driving test or road test.

The below guidelines show when you must renew your CDL. Look for the state that you want to apply for a CDL in or where you already have your license to see what that state’s license renewal requirements are.
