Can I get a traffic ticket for the noise made by my modified muffler or exhaust system?
When it comes to modified mufflers and exhaust systems, it is less about the noise the system makes and more about the amount of smog the system emits. In other words, you aren’t likely to get a traffic ticket for noise, but you could be pulled over and asked to present proof of passing an emissions test.
Emissions Testing
Depending on where you live, your vehicle must pass a smog check in order to obtain vehicle registration. For instance, in the state of California, emissions testing is required in the majority of metropolitan areas, from Monterey to L.A. Conversely, in the state of Oregon – where smog is less of a problem than in CA – smog inspections are required only in the Portland and Medford areas.Inspection Requirements by State
You can find detailed information regarding emissions testing requirements online. For verification of testing requirements, contact your local DMV branch.Post Comment for "Can I get a traffic ticket for the noise made by my modified muffler or exhaust system?"
