The California (CA) Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) allows motorcyclists to renew their motorcycle license in person or by mail. This is the same location where you would renew your CA drivers license.Consider making an appointment online at the DMV website if you plan to renew in person. Renewing California Motorcycle License in Person
To renew your CA motorcycle license in person you need to:
- Complete the driver license application (Form 44).
- Have an updated thumb print taken.
- Have your photo taken.
- Pass a vision screening.
- Pay the $31 license renewal fee.
Renewing California Motorcycle License via Mail
You can renew your motorcycle license in person if you meet the below criteria:
- Motorcycle license has an expiration date of 61 or more days.
- You are younger than 69 years old.
- Your record is free of suspensions, probations, and court violations.
- No more than one valid drivers or motorcycle license is in your possession.
- There are fewer than two consecutive motorcycle or driver license extensions via mail on your record.
