Do I need an appointment to take the CA motorcycle test? California
Required California Motorcycle Test Appointments
California’s Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) office schedules motorcycle examination appointments. The motorcycle test takes place at local California (CA) DMV offices. Most CA DMV offices are open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Written motorcycle permit examinations are not scheduled after 4:30 p.m.
Facts on the CA motorcycle license test appointment are as follows:
- Cyclists are required to pass a road test (where motorcycles are driven on CA roadways and the rider’s motorcycle safety skills are examined). This is similar to a road test for a regular drivers license, except of course you’re on a motorcycle.
- No appointment is required to take the vision or written driver license tests. Take a practice test based on information in the CA motorcycle manual to increase your chances of passing the actual tests.
Bring proof of insurance and your drivers ed learners permit with you to the DMV office on the day that you are scheduled to take your motorcycle road test. Remember to wear a helmet.
If you are younger than 18 years old, you will also need to bring a certificate that shows you successfully completed a motorcycle rider training course. Some schools that offer driver training courses also offer motorcycle training.
