Georgia Motorcycle Test Requirements

First, you need to know whether you’re actually required to take the motorcycle test.

You're waived from motorcycle testing requirements if you hold a Motorcycle Safety Certificate from an approved motorcycle drivers ed course. When you provide proof, the GA DDS (the same facility that handles all driver license matters) will automatically add a motorcycle endorsement (Class M) to your drivers license.

If you opt against completing a motorcycle safety course, you will be required to take a motorcycle test. Whether you can make a test appointment depends on whether you hold a motorcycle permit. Only permit holders can make a test appointment with a Georgia Customer Service Center. If you don't hold a permit, you can still test but only when the Customer Service Center has a gap in scheduling.

To make a motorcycle license test appointment, call (866) 754-3687 if you live outside of metro Atlanta, or (678) 413-8400 if you don’t. After dialing either number select option four. Keep in mind that not every Customer Service Center provides motorcycle testing, and those that do offer tests on a limited basis.

Motorcycle Driver Training

The motorcycle test consists of three parts: the road signs test, the special road rules test, and an actual driving test.

To pass the first two, study Georgia's motorcycle manual. All of the questions on these exams are based on information inside the manual, including passing techniques, motorcycle riding formations, and road sign identification. After studying, take a motorcycle practice test. You can find these online from a wealth of independent test sites.

When it’s time for the third part of testing – the skills test – be sure to bring your own motorcycle. There will not be any "loaner motorcycles" at the site for you to test on.
