Do I need an appointment to take the NC motorcycle test? North Carolina
No Motorcycle Test Appointment Necessary
Although no appointment is needed to take the tests to earn your North Carolina motorcycle permit or motorcycle license, it's a good idea to call ahead to confirm the hours of the location you wish to visit. Most Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) offices are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, but hours may vary at the smaller office locations; of course, it helps to know on what days and during what hours each test is available.
If you need to take:
- The traffic signs test and written motorcycle safety exam, you can do so at any time. Practice test questions are available in the NC DMV motorcycle operators manual.
- The motorcycle road skills test for your full motorcycle drivers license, you can do so on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday at 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Keep in mind that just because NC doesn’t require any kind of drivers ed or driver training courses to operate motorcycles, completing one is a great way to help ensure you pass the test and are as prepared as possible to hit the roads.
Choosing Your Motorcycle Test Day
If you're in a hurry, there are certain times you may want to avoid when handling driver license transactions. Generally, NC DMV offices tend to be busiest during the following times:- Monday morning
- Friday afternoon
- During lunch hours
- Before or after a major holiday
