Illinois Motorcycle License and Permit Fees
You must pay, at one time or another, the following motorcycle permit and motorcycle license fees:- Motorcycle permit/license (Class M): $10
- Motorcycle endorsement (Class L): $10
- Motorcycle license renewal: $5
Obtaining a Motorcycle License
To legally ride in Illinois you must hold either an instruction permit or a motorcycle license. To apply, visit any Secretary of State (SOS) driver license office and follow these steps:- Complete an application form.
- Provide proper identification.
- Provide your Social Security number.
- Pay the application fee with cash or a check.
- Pass the vision test.
- Pass the written motorcycle test. (In some instances, the license test for road skills is waived; see below.)
After studying, you'll next want to take a motorcycle practice test. You can find these tests all over the Internet, allowing you to take as many as needed until you feel rock-sure of passing the actual test.
Road Skills License Test and Motorcycle Safety
The road test requirement, the one that tests your actual motorcycle riding skills, will be waived if you're 18 or older, hold a valid IL drivers license, and successfully completed a motorcycle training course approved by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
