Motorcycle Road Test Requirements by State

Most states waive the driving test for a motorcycle license (or, depending on your state, the motorcycle endorsement on a drivers license) if you complete an approved motorcycle course.

In most cases, this is a course provided by or modeled after the Motorcycle Safety Foundation, but some states provide a motorcycle training program all their own.

Even if the motorcycle test doesn’t sound so intimidating to you (or your state requires you to take the driving test no matter what), remember that a motorcycle safety course won’t just waive your test requirement; it will also teach you all about motorcycles. You’ll learn about everything from proper gear to bike inspections to safe motorcycle riding techniques. You might even get a practice test or two.
