Anti-Theft Steps for Motorcycles

Unfortunately, there's no single foolproof measure to prevent motorcycle theft.

But, you can improve your chances of never becoming a victim by applying some of these theft protection measures - many of which are similar to traditional auto theft protection meausres:

  • Use multiple locks of different types.
  • Shut off the ignition and remove the key.
  • Deploy an audible alarm system.
  • Use high-quality locks.
  • Keep your cycle in view whenever possible.
  • Don't park behind large objects that block the view of your cycle.
  • Mark your motorcycle with unique identification.
  • Use a plain cover instead of a descriptive bike cover.
  • Take photos of your bike and store them in a secure place.
  • Lock your steering, wheels, and disks.
  • Use a hidden ignition switch.
  • Chain your bike to secure objects.
  • Install a tracking device.
  • Park in plain view of security cameras.
  • Don't keep the cycle's title and registration on the bike.
  • Keep your motorcycle in secured settings whenever possible.
Obviously, some of these steps may not apply to your situation. Of course, the more anti theft measures you take, the safer your cycle will be - and the lower you can keep your motorcycle insurance rates.
