FL Motorcycle Registration

Bikes that have engines of 50 cc or greater with two or three wheels on the ground must be registered as motorcycles.

FL Moped Registration

If your bike fits all the following criteria, it needs to be registered as a moped:

  • Engine displacement of 50 cc or less.
  • Maximum available speed of 30 mph on a flat surface.
  • Two-brake horsepower or less motor.
  • Automatic power-drive system.
  • Three or fewer wheels on the ground.
  • Pedals that permit you to propel the vehicle.

FL Scooter Registration

You might think you have a scooter, while under Florida law you actually have a motorcycle or moped - and you'll need to register it accordingly. Check the above listings for more information about moped and motorcycle classifications.

However, if your bike fits all the following categories, you have a motorized scooter, which doesn't need to be registered:

  • No seat or saddle for the rider.
  • Travels on three or fewer wheels.
  • Reaches a maximum speed of 30 mph on level ground.
You can take care of vehicle registration for motorcycles and mopeds at county tax collector's offices; call the FL DHSMV at (850) 617-2000 for details about a moped or motorcycle registration.

Remember, just like with motorcycle riding, you must ride scooters and mopeds with care and safety awareness.
