Registering Your Motorcycle in Georgia
In order to register your motorcycle or scooter at your local Georgia Motor Vehicle Division (GA MVD), you first obtain a Georgia drivers license. In addition to your drivers license, the following documents are required:- Completed Tag/Title Application.
- Vehicle title, certificate of origin from the manufacturer, or registration papers proving ownership.
- Proof of insurance.
- Proof of Georgia residency, such as a pay stub, telephone bill, or signed letterhead from your employer.
- Completed Certificate of Inspection from a law enforcement officer or tag agent.
- $20 registration/tag fee.
- $18 title fee.
- Ad valorem tax.
- Sales tax.
- Additional fees of up to $10 for late registration.
Motorcycle Registration Periods
Motorcycles must be registered in the county you legally reside in.In counties offering year-round vehicle registration, you must register your motorcycle within the 30-day period prior to your birthday. Counties with staggered registration periods, such as Talbot County, adhere to the following timeline:
- If your birthday falls in January, February, or March, you must register your motorcycle in January.
- If your birthday falls in April, May, or June, you must register in February.
- Those with birthdays in July, August, or September must register in March
- Those with birthdays in October, November, and December must register in April.
Mopeds and Other Bikes Exempt from Motorcycle Registration
Remember, you must register motorcycles and scooters, but a bike like a moped does not require registration.
