Cars Covered Under the GA Lemon Law

In the state of Georgia, Lemon Laws are fairly straight forward. In order to be covered under the GA Lemon Law, a car must be new, and still in the original owner’s possession.

Used cars are not covered under GA Lemon Law. New cars that have changed ownership since the original purchase are also not covered. Additional vehicles not covered include the following:

  • Motorcycles (including scooters).
  • All-terrain vehicles (ATVs).
  • Trucks weighing 10,000 pounds or more.
  • Boats.
  • Vehicles not legally classified as a motor vehicle.

Spotting a Lemon

A lemon car is typically one that requires extensive auto repair within the first months of owning it. If you feel you might have purchased a lemon, consult your mechanic and possibly a Lemon Law attorney.

Seeking Legal Advice

In Georgia, the state handles Lemon Law arbitration on the owner’s behalf, and manufacturers are fairly cooperative. However, there are cases in which manufacturers might resist state arbitration proceedings, in which case it is advisable to consult a Lemon Law lawyer.

Consider seeking legal advice if:

  • You are unsure if your car is covered under the GA Lemon Law.
  • You are unsure as to how proceed with the claims process.
  • You feel the manufacturer is resistant to cooperating with arbitration.
  • You feel that your car should be covered under Lemon Law when it is not.
