New York Motorcycle Registration and Renewal Fees

For legal motorcycle riding in New York, you must pay the following motorcycle registration fees:

  • Motorcycle registration: $17.50
  • Motorcycle title: $50
  • Motorcycle license plate: $15.50 (This is for the standard plate; the fees for customized plates vary.)
  • Motorcycle registration renewal: $17.50
NOTE: Depending on your county of residence you may also be charged a use tax fee.

Registration Renewal for Motorcycles, Scooters, and Mopeds

All bikes must be registered annually. The NY DMV will mail you a registration renewal notice about two months prior to the expiration date of your motorcycle registration (registrations for all bikes expire April 30th). Depending on your situation, you'll be given four renewal options: by mail, in-person, by phone, or online.

In addition to registration, your motorcycle, moped, or scooter must pass an annual inspection. For it to be legal, the inspection must take place at a state-approved inspection center.

Don’t waste any time updating your registration; you will be ticketed and fined if caught operating a bike without a valid vehicle registration and proof of inspection.
