New Jersey Motorcycle Registration and Renewal Fees

To ride your motorcycle, moped or scooter in New Jersey you must pay the following motorcycle registration and registration renewal fees:

  • Motorcycle registration: $65
  • Motorcycle registration renewal: $65
  • Moped registration: $15
  • Moped registration renewal: $15
The NJ MVC accepts cash, checks, money orders, and credit cards to register and renew these bikes.

Initial Motorcycle Registration

When you register your motorcycle for the first time you must do it in person at any NJ MVC office. (The same is true for mopeds and scooters.)

Upon registering and paying your fee, you will receive one license plate (unlike cars, motorcycles only require one plate) a registration decal, and a registration card.

Motorcycle Registration Renewal

The MVC makes registration renewal easy by giving you four renewal options: in person, by mail, by phone, and online. It's very important, from a legal standpoint, to renew in a timely fashion. If you're caught motorcycle riding without a valid vehicle registration you will be fined, ticketed, and possibly face community service.
